Brief
Description of Website |
| |
Everyone
knows of St Paul's Cathedral but did you know that
the man that commenced the building of the Priory
in 1094, Ranulf Flambard, was previously Dean of
St Paul's? |
| |
Flambard
went on to become Bishop of Durham Cathedral in
1099, whilst work continued on the Priory by his
successors. If Flambard hadn't had gone to Durham,
the Priory may have been completed exclusively in
Norman style, but then it would have lost its charm
of having many different periods of architectural
style in one building. |
