The Great Quire

The Great Quire was rebuilt in the 15th century, and completed in the early 16th.

The stunning 14th century carved stone Jesse Reredos depicts the genealogical tree of Christ rising from Jesse, through his son King David and grandson King Solomon, to his descendant Joseph who is in the Epiphany panel with Baby Jesus, his mother Mary, and the Three Kings bearing gifts.

Above the screen is a mural painted in 1967 by Hans Feibusch.

The mural depicts the Ascension of Christ, completing the theme of the life of Christ developed in the Jesse screen beneath.
