Harys and Draper Chantries

Robert Harys was one of the canons appointed to be vicar of Christchurch. The inscription along the top reads, 'The Lord King of Blis have mercy on him (who) let make this which was Robert Harys AD 1525.' In the lower left panel is a shield depicting a hare with 'R' to the left and 'YS' to the right, giving a play on words with his name. This is called a Rebus.

John Draper was the last Augustinian Prior at the Priory. A carving above the entrance to the chantry depicts the Priory Church with a central tower and spire and the initials J.D adding to the belief that the church once had a central tower but which fell down or was removed.
