At 120 feet (37m) high the Tower is a very visible landmark on the Christchurch skyline. This also means that the tower provides stunning views of the local landscape and on clear days, views further afield such as the Purbecks, can be clearly seen. On top of the tower is the Priory Salmon weather vane. The salmon is five feet four inches in length and weighs 30lbs (14kg). The salmon commemorates the gift of the first salmon of the season to the Prior by Richard de Redvers, 3rd Earl of Devon, in memory of his father. The fish is also a symbol of Christianity.
